"Barbara
Parkinson lives in Killybegs, County Donegal, a town which
lies open to the great demands and wonders of ocean and sky; there
are tragedies, there is delight. There is a sense of community,
a closeness, a bright wit and uninhibited conversation.
In
Barbara's poetry all of this has led to a deliberately worked
collection, honed with care and discernment. The imaginative leaps
are intimidating, like the ocean, but yield their treasures to
those who seek them. Her poetry is a poetry of flesh and spirit,
of the intimate entries to the soul. It is an exciting love poetry,
demanding and tender, moving with a strongly physical awareness
under the broad sail of human sympathy. This is new, true and
challenging. I commend it to the waves." John F. Deane
